Adaptive Reuse: Innovative Dance Studio

The proposed project aimed to create a dance studio and a performance space in a post-industrial building that will not physically alter the building’s appearance: to enhance the buildings and their significant heritage via creative interpretation and design.  Furthermore the proposed adaptive reuse design concept will respond appropriately to the existing form of the building where an old heavy industrial structure meets with new, soft, flowing and organic forms that defines the new interior identity.

‘…buildings, like people must be allowed to age, develop and change- and the change must show’.
Mildred F. Schmertz (2004)

The new design and use makes the building more accessible and less ‘secret’ than it was in the past. To ensure the design of the building matches its intended use, the interior space organic and curvy walls of the dance rooms will to emphasize the existing structure.
